Hadith
“Shall I not inform you of the best of your actions, the purest in the sight of your Lord, which raises your rank to the highest, which is better for you than spending gold and silver, better than meeting your enemy so that you strike at their necks and they strike at yours?’ They replied: ‘Yes, indeed,’ and he said: ‘It is the remembrance of Allah” (Tirmidhi).
Here are some Dhikr (remembrance) practices commonly observed in Islam:
- Subhanallah (Glory be to Allah)
- Alhamdulillah (All praise is due to Allah)
- Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest)
- La ilaha illallah (There is no god but Allah)
- Astaghfirullah (I seek forgiveness from Allah)
- La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah (There is no power nor strength except with Allah)
- Hasbiyallahu la ilaha illa Huwa, ‘alayhi tawakkaltu, wa Huwa Rabbul ‘Arshil ‘Adhim (Allah is sufficient for me, there is no god but He; upon Him I rely, and He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne)
- Subhanallahi wa bihamdihi (Glory be to Allah and praise Him)
- SubhanAllahi wa bihamdihi, SubhanAllahil adheem (Glory be to Allah and His is the praise, and Allah, the Almighty)
- Subhanallah, walhamdulillah, wala ilaha illallah, wallahu akbar (Glory be to Allah, all praise is due to Allah, there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest)
These are some highly beneficial Dhikr (remembrance) phrases in Islam:
- Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa’fu ‘annee: “O Allah, You are the Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness, so forgive me.”
- Subhāna-llāhi, wa-l-hamdu li-llāhi, wa lā ilāha illā-llāhu, wa-llāhu akbar. Wa lā hawla wa lā quwwata illā bi-llāhi-l-aliyyi-l-azīm: “Glory be to Allah, and praise be to Allah, and there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. There is no power nor strength except through Allah, the Most High, the Most Great.”
- Lā ilāha illā-llāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lahu lahu-l-mulku wa lahu-l-ḥamdu yuhyi wa yumītu wa huwa ḥayyu-llā yamūtu abadan abada, ḏū-l-jalāli wa-l-ikrām, biyadihi-l-khayr, wa huwa alā kulli Shay-in qadīr: “There is no god but Allah alone, He has no partner, to Him belongs the dominion and to Him belongs all praise, He gives life and causes death, and He is the Ever-Living who never dies, in His hand is all goodness, and He is over all things competent.”
- Laa ilaaha illal-laahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu wa huwa ‘alaa kulli shay-in qadeer: “There is no god but Allah alone, He has no partner, to Him belongs the dominion, and to Him belongs all praise, and He is over all things competent.”
These Dhikr phrases hold immense spiritual significance and can be recited regularly for blessings, forgiveness, and closeness to Allah.
