Dua

When you make Dua, remember that there is certain etiquette you have to follow:

1. Praise Allah first,
2. then send salutations upon the Prophet,
3. then make Dua for your yourself,
4. then make Dua for your family and the rest of the Ummah.

There is no God but Allah and Muhammad (peace be upon him) is his Servant & Messenger. May Allah accept our good deeds. Ameen

Allahu Akbar! Allah is the Greatest

Here are some duas (supplications) along with the recommended etiquette to follow when making them:

  1. Dua for guidance and righteousness:
    • “Rabbana atina fi-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan waqina ‘adhaban-nar.”
    • Translation: “Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”
    Etiquette:
    • Begin by praising Allah.
    • Send salutations upon the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
    • Make the dua for yourself.
  2. Dua for forgiveness:
    • “Rabbighfir warham wa anta khayrur Rahimeen.”
    • Translation: “Our Lord, forgive and have mercy, for You are the Best of the merciful.”
    Etiquette:
    • Start with praising Allah.
    • Send blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
    • Make the dua for yourself.
  3. Dua for your family:
    • “Rabbana hablana min azwajina wa dhuriyyatina qurrata a’yunin waj’alna lil-muttaqina imama.”
    • Translation: “Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us an example for the righteous.”
    Etiquette:
    • Commence with praising Allah.
    • Send salutations upon the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
    • Make the dua for your family.
  4. Dua for the Ummah (Muslim community):
    • “Allahumma ighfir lana dhunubana wa israafana fi amrina wa thabbit aqdamana wansurna ‘alal qawmil kafireen.”
    • Translation: “O Allah, forgive us our sins and excesses in our affairs, and make firm our steps and help us against the disbelieving people.”
    Etiquette:
    • Begin by praising Allah.
    • Send blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
    • Make the dua for the rest of the Ummah.
  1. Dua for seeking protection from evil:
    • “A’udhu bi kalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq.”
    • Translation: “I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.”
  2. Dua for success and ease:
    • “Rabbishrahli sadri wa yassirli amri, wahlul ‘uqdatan min lisan yafqahu qawli.”
    • Translation: “My Lord, expand for me my chest [with assurance], and ease for me my task, and untie the knot from my tongue that they may understand my speech.”
  3. Dua for patience and strength:
    • “Rabbana afrigh ‘alayna sabran wa thabbit aqdamana wansurna ‘alal qawmil kafireen.”
    • Translation: “Our Lord, pour upon us patience and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people.”
  4. Dua for relief from distress:
    • “La ilaha illa anta subhanaka, inni kuntu minaz-zalimin.”
    • Translation: “There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers.”
  1. Dua for seeking knowledge:
    • “Rabbi zidni ilma.”
    • Translation: “My Lord, increase me in knowledge.”
  2. Dua for entering and leaving the house:
  • Upon entering: “Bismillahi walajna, wa bismillahi kharajna, wa ‘ala Rabbina tawakkalna.”
  • Translation: “In the name of Allah we enter, and in the name of Allah we leave, and upon our Lord we place our trust.”
  • Upon leaving: “Bismillahi, tawakkaltu ‘ala Allah, la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.”
  • Translation: “In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, there is no power and no strength except with Allah.”
  1. Dua for traveling:
  • “Subhanalladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrineen wa inna ila Rabbina lamunqaliboon.”
  • Translation: “Exalted is He who has subjected this to us, and we could not have [otherwise] subdued it. And indeed we, to our Lord, will [surely] return.”
  1. Dua for seeking refuge from laziness and cowardice:
  • “Allahumma inni a’udhu bika minal ‘ajzi wal kasal.”
  • Translation: “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from weakness and laziness.”
  1. Dua for good health:
  • “Allahumma ‘aafini fi badani, Allahumma ‘aafini fi sam’i, Allahumma ‘aafini fi basari, la ilaha illa anta.”
  • Translation: “O Allah, grant me health in my body, O Allah, grant me health in my hearing, O Allah, grant me health in my sight. There is no deity except You.”

      Remembering the etiquette when making dua enhances its sincerity and effectiveness, aligning it with the teachings and guidance of Islam.
